If I had to give my parenting a theme it would be, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6.
As hard as it is, I have to realize that I am raising a woman and two men, not 3 children. Each one has to find their own love for the Lord and their own firm foundation in God's Word in order to be all that God has designed them to be and to do all that God has planned for them to do.
My job is to train them up for this life. Hopefully, at the end, each one can say, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have remained faithful." 2 Timothy 4:7.
In my devotion time today I read about where we should find our refuge. Here are my thoughts...
I'll train my children to define themselves in relation to their creator.
Who is their refuge? "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:27
In whom does their hope lie? "Your faith and hope are in God." 1 Peter 1:21
Where will you find your security? "My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19
Where will you find supreme acceptance that will never fade or falter for all the days of your life? "As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you." Isaiah 62:5.
My dear children, your future depends on God, not on man and your security rests with your caring Creator's providence. Find your refuge, security, comfort, strength and hope in him. You are never alone.
